Ishaq Dar addresses Pakistani students’ concerns

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held a press conference today, ahead of his departure to Tehran, Iran along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Addressing the media, Dar said that the Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan has assured him that there was no cause for concern with regards to Pakistani students still present in Kyrgyzstan.

Two of the three injured Pakistani students have already been discharged from the hospital, while one student from Attock remains under treatment, Dar said. He confirmed that those involved in the incident had been arrested and reassured that the Kyrgyz government would take action against the perpetrators.

Furthermore, Dar said that the student under treatment, Shahzeb, would be brought back to Pakistan very soon. He mentioned that 4,290 students would return to Pakistan by tonight, with 3,233 students already having arrived home.

Addressed additional concerns, Dar noted that 1,100 Pakistani workers had illegally arrived in Kyrgyzstan through an agent. He said that Pakistan has requested the Kyrgyz government not to deport these workers and to issue visas to those residing illegally.

Issues related to the education of returning students are under consideration, and a committee has been formed to address these matters, the deputy prime minister informed.

Dar also talked about representing Pakistan at the Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana. He informed that during the meeting, he engaged in fruitful discussions with world leaders, including a significant meeting with the Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan.
