Ishaq Dar opens land record, passport services for Pakistanis in UK

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Monday inaugurated two major initiatives at the Pakistan High Commission in London – ‘Provision of Land Record Services’ and the ‘One Window Passport Processing System’.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the move fulfils a commitment made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Overseas Pakistanis Convention in April 2025, aimed at making governance more efficient, transparent and accessible for the Pakistani diaspora.

Developed in collaboration between the Punjab Land Revenue Authority (PLRA) and the MOFA, the land record services will allow British Pakistanis to access and manage property records in Punjab without travelling home.

The digital platform offers services such as online sale deeds, Fard (Record of Rights), e-Girdawari, mutation entries and document attestation.

Secured through blockchain technology, it is designed to ensure transparency and curb fraud.

A dedicated desk at the High Commission will handle the pilot phase, with expansion planned to other consulates across the UK.

Meanwhile, the one-window passport system, launched by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (IMPASS), consolidates multiple steps of passport processing into a single counter.

The reform is expected to cut application time to around 10 minutes, easing congestion and improving transparency for British Pakistanis.

Calling the initiatives a “digital leap towards safeguarding diaspora rights and fostering investment,” Dar praised the collaborative efforts of the Foreign Ministry, PLRA, NADRA and the High Commission in London.

Separately, DPM Ishaq Dar met Lord Qurban Hussain and Kashmiri community leaders to discuss diaspora issues.

He lauded the role of British parliamentarians of Pakistani heritage in strengthening bilateral relations.

On the matter of Mirpur Airport, Ishaq Dar said formalities were being completed and suggested a public-private partnership financing model, encouraging the Kashmiri diaspora in the UK to invest in the project — a proposal that was welcomed by the delegation.
