Islamabad: burglars steal valuables worth Rs26m on Eid holidays

ISLAMABAD: Robbers shot and injured two people while separate incidents of burglary and theft resulted in losses exceeding Rs26 million in Islamabad, police reported on Friday.

Mohammad Daniyal informed the Shams Colony police that he and his friend, Hanzala, were returning from a meal when three men on motorcycles intercepted them at the Shams Colony turn.

The assailants brandished weapons, snatched cash and three mobile phones. They also shot the two passengers as they fled.

In another incident, thieves stole valuables worth Rs8 million from the home of Sadia Akhter in Bahria Enclave, under the jurisdiction of the Banigala police station.

Separately, burglars broke into the residence of Haji Liaquat Ali in Bahria Town Phase V while the occupants were away. They made off with Rs1 million, 20 tola of gold, and a pistol.

Similarly, burglars took cash and valuables totalling over Rs5.5 million from the home of Bilal Khan Khattak in G-8/2 while the family was celebrating Eid in their native town.

In al-Huda Town, burglars stole cash and gold worth Rs2.3 million from Amir Islam’s house while the residents were visiting their hometown for Eid.

Ahsan Yousaf reported to the Noon police station that burglars took 6.5 tola gold and Rs143,000 in cash from his home in I-14/4 during the residents’ absence.

Adnan Qamar told Khana polie station that Rs485,000 in cash and six tola of gold were stolen from his house in Ghauri Town, Phase IV.

Burglars also stole Rs200,000, two told of gold, and a motorcycle from Farooq’s residence in Khana Dak, within the Khanna police jurisdiction.

In yet another case, three told of gold, 10,000 dirhams, and Rs150,000 were taken from Khalid Farooq’s home in E-17 while the family attended a wedding in Attock.

Thieves also stole valuables, including gold and prize bonds worth Rs580,000, from Sohail Ahmed’s house in G-9/2 while the residents were in their native town for Eid.
