Islamabad enforces new car number plate rules and penalties

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad administration enacted new regulations for vehicle registration and number plates, aiming to standardiSe plate designs and enforce stricter penalties.
Under the updated rules, number plates will have specific color codes based on vehicle categories. Transport and commercial vehicles must use black numbers and letters on a yellow background.

Federal government vehicles will feature white numbers and letters on a green background, while autonomous or semi-autonomous organisation vehicles will display white numbers and letters on a blue background.
Private ambulances will have white numbers on a black background, and all other vehicles will use black numbers and letters on a white background.
Vehicles with unauthorised or expired plates will face impoundment. Owners will incur significant fines to regain their vehicles. For first-time offenses, the re-registration fees are set at Rs5,000 for vehicles up to 1,000 cc, Rs10,000 for vehicles between 1,001 cc and 2,000 cc, and Rs20,000 for vehicles exceeding 2,000 cc.
Motorcycles will face a re-registration fee of Rs1,000. Repeat offenders will be charged fines five times higher than the original amount.
The new regulations apply to all vehicles throughout Pakistan and are effective immediately. The Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department said that the traffic police will cancel the registrations of vehicles with non-standard number plates.
The measure is intended to improve road safety and facilitate easier vehicle identification. Vehicles with non-compliant or fancy plates will have their registrations canceled and will require re-registration under the new fee structure.

The Islamabad administration has detailed that repeat violations will result in significantly higher re-registration fees. For instance, repeat offenders will be subject to fines five times the initial amounts.
Vehicle owners are encouraged to adhere to the updated rules to avoid substantial penalties. The government is urging vehicle owners to comply with these new regulations to prevent fines and ensure proper vehicle registration.
