ISLAMABAD: With the October 1 deadline over, Islamabad police have begun action against motorcyclists riding without helmets and valid number plates.
The traffic police had fixed October 1 as the final date for motorcyclists to purchase helmets and install original number plates issued by the Excise Office. The department had warned that strict measures would follow in case of violations.
The violators will not only face heavy fines but also impounding of their vehicles as well as jail term.
According to a police spokesperson, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Hamza Humayun said motorcyclists must also avoid one-wheeling, lane violations and riding motorcycles without silencers. He said a crackdown had been launched after the expiry of the deadline.

The CTO further said police were already taking strict action against one-way violations. He advised motorcyclists to obtain their driving licences or learner’s permits by October 7.
“Most road fatalities this year occurred due to motorcyclists’ negligence,” the CTO noted, warning that stern action would continue against those putting lives at risk.
