ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police have implemented a special security plan for Muharram. For two months, from 1 Muharram to 2 Rabi-al-Awwal, 181 processions and 965 majalis will take place in Islamabad. During this period, more than 16,000 officers will perform security duties.

Before finalising the security plan, meetings were held with scholars of all schools of thought, peace committee members, and intellectuals. The deployment includes officers from Islamabad Police and Pakistan Rangers. Strict checks will be conducted at the city’s entrances and exits. Safe City cameras will monitor the processions, and armed police personnel will be stationed on rooftops.

Armoured police vehicles will be available to handle emergencies. There will be strict adherence to schedules for meetings and processions. Roads and streets along the procession routes will be closed with barbed wire. Prior to each procession, special route checks and clearance by disposal squads will be conducted.

All gatherings and processions will be recorded by drone cameras. Only locals and non-locals who pass thorough searches will be allowed to join the processions. Vehicles and motorcycles will be prohibited from entering the procession areas. Pilgrims will be checked with metal detectors, and walk-through gates will be installed at entry points.
