ISLAMABAD: The Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has approved two major infrastructure projects in a bid to tackle Islamabad’s persistent traffic woes. These projects are expected to ease the daily commute for residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The foundation stones will also be laid for the Serena Chowk Interchange and F-10 Exchange Chowk Interchange projects in the coming week.

The timelines have been shortened which were originally slated for completion in 10 to 12 months respectively.

Serena Chowk will now be ready for traffic in just three months, featuring two underpasses and connecting roads. While F-10 will be completed in four months with a flyover, an underpass and connecting roads.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been instructed by the Interior Minister to ensure timely completion of these projects and working round the clock if necessary. Mohsin Naqvi has also approved an alternative traffic plan to be in place before construction begins.

Naqvi reviewed the layout plans in a meeting for both interchanges and stressed the need to quickly relocate service lines to avoid delays. He also highlighed the importance of efficient traffic management during construction. A special unit will be on duty on construction sites to maintain traffic flow.

The minister further directed that a comprehensive plan be put in place to improve the traffic situation at Faizabad Interchange. Chief Traffic Officer Sarfraz Virk provided a detailed briefing on how traffic would be managed during the construction phase.
