Islamabad’s morning hits freezing point temperature

WEB DESK: The temperature in Islamabad reached freezing point in the morning on Tuesday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) data showed.

PMD said that the weather is likely to remain cold and dry all day today in Islamabad. Moving up north, in Murree, Galiyat and surrounding areas, the weather will be even colder.

Going region by region, in Kashmir and Giglit-Baltistan as well, the weather will remain extremely cold today, the PMD said.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially the hilly areas of the province, the weather will remain extremely cold and dry. In the plains, fog is expected in the early hours as well.

Punjab will be no different, as the PMD predicts cold weather in most districts of Punjab, along with fog and haze in upper districts in the morning. Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur will have light fog on Tuesday.

Most districts of Sindh will experience cold and dry weather, while light fog is predicted for Sukkur, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Mohenjo-daro and surrounding areas.

Northern districts of Balochistan will remain extremely cold and overall the region will also experience dry and cold weather, PMD said.

During the past 24 hours, the recorded temperature for Chitral, Abbottabad, Rawalakot, and Murree reached -1°C, Bagrot, Gilgit and Hunza -2°C, Dir -3°C, Malam Jabba, Astore and Quetta -4°C, Skardu and Kalat -5°C, Gupis-Yasin -7°C, and Layyah reached -13°C.

FOR TOURISTS

The PMD has issued an advisory for tourists as well, saying that most tourist places are likely to have partly cloudy and extremely cold weather on Tuesday. Rain and potentially snowfall is also likely in Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Chitral, Dir, Kalam, Malam Jabba, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad and and Kaghan-Naran on Wednesday and Thursday. Ziarat will also be extremely cold this week.

Minimum Temperatures are likely to drop below 0°C due to the recent cold wave. Tourist are advised to remain cautious during the cold weather, PMD said.

The sudden or unexpected snowfall or rain can also trigger landslides and cause accidents. It is advised to take precautions while travelling and to avoid unnecessary travelling altogether.
