KFC Mardan

MARDAN: Mardan Mayor Himayat Ullah, locked the doors of the only KFC franchise in the district for its alleged support to Israel in the war against Gaza. However it was reopened after a short while.

“All products of Israel are boycotted. We have fulfilled our duty and closed KFC,” he said while addressing the supporters outside the food chain at the Nowshera Road in the district.

Mayor Himayat ullah talking to HUM News told that the closure was done symbolically to create awareness amongst the general public.

After a short while, the KFC was reopened.

According to a video circulating in the the social media Mayor Himayat, who belongs to the Awami National Party, moved a “verbal resolution” in the 127-member local council declaring that the KFC Mardan franchise should be closed in the district.

He can also be seen saying that a list of Israeli products being sold in markets will be prepared and sent to shopkeepers for them to destroy. However if they do not comply, than we would destroy the items ourselves.

The development comes four days after the Jamaat-e-Islami supporters protested outside the food outlet against its alleged support for Israel and had given the district administration a two-day ultimatum to close it or their supporters would vandalise the building.

In the recent past, many American companies and food chains have been criticised for their government’s support for Israel.
