Jamia Binori declares TikTok Haram, demands ban

KARACHI: Jamia Binori Town in Karachi has issued a fatwa against the popular video-sharing platform TikTok, calling for a ban on its usage.
The fatwa asserts that inappropriate content on TikTok is being exploited for financial gain.
The fatwa also says that TikTok is primarily utilised for involvement in illicit activities, including the sharing of prohibited images, videos, and music, the dissemination of indecent content, and the propagation of inappropriate humour, among other violations.

The fatwa further added that, from a religious standpoint, the use of TikTok is unequivocally deemed as forbidden and impermissible.
“Young and even elderly individuals resort to various activities to earn money, some of which may not be deemed acceptable by those with a strong moral character,” it added.
TikTok, owned by China-based ByteDance, stands as one of the most widely used video-sharing apps in Pakistan. In 2022 alone, it reported over 39 million downloads, as per data from the mobile and digital analytics firm Sensor Tower.
