Japanese nationals targeted in a terror attack in Karachi

KARACHI: Terrorists targeted a convoy carrying five Japanese nationals in the Mansehra Colony area of Landhi Town, Karachi on Friday.
According to sources, the attack resulted in the death of two terrorists, while three others were injured. Authorities later confirmed that all five foreign nationals involved in the convoy were safe and unharmed. The survivors have been relocated to a safe location under police custody.

The terror attack drew strong condemnation from the Pakistani government, who promised to ensure the safety of foreign nationals within its borders. The attack targeted a convoy of foreign nationals, but quick retaliation by the security forces prevented major casualties.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Meanwhile, investigations are currently underway.
The attack was also condemned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). A spokesperson for MOFA stated that all necessary measures would be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice. The spokesperson went on to say that “such acts of terrorism only serve to strengthen the resolve of the government” and the people of Pakistan to “eradicate this scourge” from society.
“Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to the safety of foreign nationals residing within the country.” The government also pledged to continue working with international partners to combat terrorism “in all its forms.”
Meanwhile, the Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo stated it was “deeply concerned” over the targeting of Japanese nationals in Karachi. The embassy said that there is a “shared commitment” between Pakistan and Japan to combat terrorism and violent extremism. While condemning the attack, the embassy was thankful the Japanese nationals involved were unharmed.
President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also strongly condemned the terrorist attack. Zardari commended the timely action of the law enforcement officers who prevented major casualties. He stated that the government was firm in eradicating terrorism.

Similarly, the PM prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and directed authorities to provide them with the best possible medical care. He said Pakistan would thwart any attempts to disrupt law and order in the country.
The incident is the latest in a series of terrorist attacks that has recently seen an upsurge in Pakistan. In March, Chinese engineers were killed by unknown assailants in Bisam, Shangla.
