JCP approves 10 additional judges for Peshawar High Court

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has approved 10 additional judges for the Peshawar High Court (PHC) instead of nine.
The meeting of the JCP was presided by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.
Chief Justice Peshawar High Court had recommended the appointment of 10 judges instead of nine, which was approved by the commission.
Judicial Commission to debate SC appointments one day earlier
The JCP has approved the names of Abdul Fayyaz, Aurangzeb, Farah Jamshed, Qazi Jawad, Ahsanullah, Sibt ullah Khan, Sadiq Ali, Salhuddin, Mudassir Amir and Tariq Afridi as the additional judges for PHC.
According to sources, the appointment of 10 additional judges for the Peshawar High Court was approved by a majority. In the Judicial Commission meeting, members with dissenting opinions argued that the agenda had listed the appointment of 9 additional judges, and therefore, the approval of 10 judges should not be granted.
Meanwhile Judicial Commission meeting for the appointment of Supreme Court judges has been postponed to February 10. Earlier, the Judicial Commission meeting was called for February 11.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi will preside over the meeting, that will discuss the potential elevation of High Court judges to the Supreme Court. There are eight new appointments likely after the meeting.
Earlier this month, District and Session Judge Mohammad Azam Khan and Advocate Supreme Court Raja Inam Ameen Minhas were appointed at the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
In Balochistan High Court (BHC) as well, Justice Muhammad Asif, Justice Muhammad Ayub Khan Tareen and Najam-ud-Din Mengal were appointed. All three justices have been serving as Supreme Court advocates prior to the appointment at the BHC.
