JI chief blasts increase in petrol prices despite global decline


The recent decision by the government to increase petrol and diesel prices was lambasted by the JI Chief, Naeem ur Rehman.

LAHORE: The recent decision by the federal government to increase petrol and diesel prices was lambasted by the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman.

Naeem criticised the government for failing to provide relief to the beleaguered public, that while global petrol prices were decreasing, local petrol prices continued to rise.

He accused the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) led by Shehbaz Sharif and Bilawal Zardari, of mismanaging  the situation.

He also criticized the privatisation of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) run government decided to increase petrol prices by Rs1.35 per litre, effective November 1 till November 15. Petrol will now cost Rs248.38 per litre. Similarity, price of diesel increased by Rs3.85 to Rs255.14 per litre.

Meanwhile, the price of light diesel oil and kerosene decreased by Rs2.61 and Rs1.48 respectively.

The new fuel prices were released by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
