JI protest today: Traffic police devises alternate routes

traffic plan JI protest today

KARACHI: Traffic police have devised a plan for the convenience of motorists due to a protest by the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) today against the ongoing water and electricity crises in the port city.

According to the plan, traffic coming from the airport will be diverted from Drigh Road towards Rashid Minhas Road.

For those heading towards Karsaz Flyover, traffic will be redirected to Stadium Road. Additionally, traffic from Stadium to Karsaz will not be allowed, as stated by the traffic police.

Vehicles will be diverted from Stadium Signal towards New Town and Millennium Mall. However, the road from Avari Signal on Shahrah-e-Faisal towards the airport will remain open for traffic.

G-B CM seeks federal intervention to alleviate power crisis

JI has announced a protest sit-in on Sharae Faisal on Wednesday (today)  against the ongoing water and electricity crises.

JI Karachi Ameer Munem Zafar announcing the sit-in stated that Karachiites are deprived of clean tap water while facing up to 18 hours of load shedding in several areas despite the harsh weather.

He accused “white-collar criminals”, under the protection of the PPP and the MQM-Pakistan of ruining the city.

On Karachi’s water crisis, Zafar stated that the city needs 1,300 million gallons daily (MGD) but only receives 650 MGD. Outdated water lines and uneven distribution exacerbate the problem. He recalled the K4 water supply project initiated by the late Nematullah Khan, which was supposed to be completed in 2019 but has been delayed due to political interference and corruption.

Zafar criticised the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) budget, stating that no significant allocation was made for development programs, rendering the mayor’s role ceremonial.
