JI sit-in: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar addresses media

RAWALPINDI: Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar addressed the media outside the office of the Commissioner Rawalpindi today, providing updates on ongoing negotiations between the government and the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) protestors.

He also shed light on government initiatives. Tarar assured that negotiations are progressing and that all relevant information will be disclosed upon conclusion. He confirmed that there have been no changes in the government’s negotiation committee.

“Awais Laghari [Energy Minister] is currently not in the country as he is on a visit to China,” Tarar stated, addressing queries about the absence of key figures, especially with regards to soaring electricity bills.

He mentioned that representatives from JI are scheduled to arrive for discussions, particularly focusing on their concerns regarding electricity. “We acknowledge their reservations and will address them to the best of our ability,” he added.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to alleviate the burden of electricity costs, Tarar noted, “The government has provided a subsidy of Rs 50 billion on 200 units of electricity”.
