Joint statement from Pakistan-US counter-terrorism dialogue released

ISLAMABAD: The joint statement from the counter-terrorism dialogue between Pakistan and the United States (US) was released on Monday by Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
Additional Foreign Secretary Syed Haider Shah represented Pakistan. Meanwhile, the US was represented by its Department of State Coordinator for Counter-terrorism Elizabeth Richard. The “Pakistan-US Counter-terrorism Dialogue” was held on Friday in US capital, Washington DC.

During the meeting, the two countries agreed on bilateral cooperation in addressing groups such as the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIS) Khorasan chapter (ISIS-K).
A key aspect highlighted during the discussions was the mutual agreement to sustain joint endeavours in combating terrorism. The discussions also agreed on recognising the impact of terrorism on regional stability.
Both Pakistan and the US pointed out the importance of bettering anti-terrorism cooperation and bolstering capacities to effectively tackle such challenges.
The joint-statement also mentioned both countries considering providing technical expertise in negotiation, investigation, prosecution support, and training. It also talked about the “shared determination” of both countries to prevent violent extremism.

The dialogue culminated with the commitment of Pakistan and the US to regional and global security. The countries stated they had a shared responsibility in addressing common threats.
