Judicial Commission to meet on Feb 11 for new SC appointments

ISLAMABAD: Judicial Commission meeting called for February 11, under the chair of Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.

The agenda of the meeting includes discussion on the names of High Court judges, who will be considered for Supreme Court appointments. The meeting will debate the appointment of eight new judges to the apex court.

Appointments should be made from among the top five senior judges of the High Courts.

IHC, BHC JUDGES APPOINTED

Earlier, on January 20, two new additional judges were sworn-in at the Islamabad High Court (IHC). IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq administered the oath to District and Session Judge Mohammad Azam Khan and Advocate Supreme Court Raja Inam Ameen Minhas.

On the same day, three new judges were also appointed at the Balochistan High Court (BHC). BHC Chief Justice Justice Hashim Kakar administered oath to the newly appointed additional judges, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Ayub Khan Tareen and Najam-ud-Din Mengal.

All three justices had been serving as Supreme Court advocates prior to the appointment at the BHC.

LAWYERS NOMINATED FOR LHC

For the Lahore High Court (LHC), a list of 49 names has been suggested for appointment of additional judges.

The Judicial Commission meeting regarding the nominations of judges of LHC will be held on February 6.
