Kaghan Highway to Babusar Top set to reopen soon

Kaghan Highway to be opened till Babusar Top

BALAKOT: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has begun restoration work to reopen the Kaghan Highway up to Babusar Top for tourists, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

According to Inspector Latif Anwar of the NHA, the road has already been cleared and reopened up to Lake Lulusar. Heavy machinery is currently deployed to remove glaciers along the remaining route.

Latif Anwar added that the Kaghan Highway to Babusar Top will soon be restored, allowing full access for tourists.

With the route to Lake Saif-ul-Malook and Lake Lulusar already open, tourists from across the country can now enjoy the scenic beauty of Kaghan Valley, which remains one of Pakistan’s top summer destinations.

In a first, Pakistan finalises mechanism for environmental budget

In November last year, seven massive glaciers—each over 40 feet high and 300 feet long—completely blocked the Naran-Kaghan Road, cutting off access to one of Pakistan’s most scenic tourist spots, the Naran Valley.

After days of work, National Highway Authority (NHA) teams managed to clear six glaciers. Now, efforts are underway to remove the final glacier still blocking the road.

Earlier in March, the region suffered another setback when a glacier collapsed along the Lake Saiful Malook Road. The incident damaged several homes and hotels.

At the time, the area was buried under 3–4 feet of snow, making it nearly impossible to reach—even on foot—due to overcast skies and more snowfall expected.

According to the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA), six houses, three hotels, and two turbines were damaged in the collapse.
