Karachi board announces new schedule for intermediate exams

KARACHI: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has announced that the annual intermediate examinations for 2025, originally scheduled to begin on April 28, have been postponed. The exams will now start on Monday, May 5, 2025. This means inter students now have extra time to prepare effectively for the upcoming exams.

According to officials, the decision was taken on the instructions of the board’s chairman due to two main reasons. Firstly, the process of awarding grace marks in mathematics, chemistry, and physics for first-year students of the pre-medical, pre-engineering, and general science groups from the 2024 session has not yet been completed.

Secondly, a number of examination centres are currently being used for matriculation exams, which began on April 8 and will continue until May 8, creating a scheduling conflict.

Officials said the adjustment was necessary to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations and the availability of centres. Students, educational institutions, and parents have been advised to continue their preparations according to the revised schedule.

BIEK also informed that any further updates would be announced through its official website and verified social media pages on Facebook and Instagram.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government’s Department of Universities and Boards has issued an official notification approving the award of grace marks to students who appeared in the Intermediate Part-I (Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering) annual examinations of 2024.

The notification, issued following approval from the provincial cabinet on April 15, grants 20 per cent grace marks in Chemistry and 15 per cent each in Physics and Mathematics.

The Karachi Board has been formally informed of the decision, with instructions to ensure its implementation.
