Karachi police issue traffic plan for Muharram processions

KARACHI: Karachi police have put forward a comprehensive security and traffic management plan for the processions to be held on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram.

A spokesperson for the Karachi police said that a total of 4,698 personnel have been deployed to ensure the security of the Muharram processions.

This contingent includes 3,746 head constables/constables, 123 women police personnel, 178 commandos from the Special Security Unit, and personnel from the Rapid Response Force.

In addition to this, 90 snipers from the Special Security Unit have been strategically placed along the sides and passages of the main procession.

According to the traffic plan, on the 8th of Muharram, a procession will commence from Nishtar Park and culminate at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.

The procession will follow the route through Nishtar Park, Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Mehfil-i-Shah-i-Khurasan, MA Jinnah Road (point a), Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, Tibet Chowk, MA Jinnah Road (point b), Baba-e-Urdu, Bara Imam, Nishtar Road, Altaf Hussain Road, Bolton Market, MA Jinnah Road (point c), Nawaz Mahabat Khanjee Road, Bombay Bazar, Kharadar Police Station, and finally, Hussainian Iranian Imambargah.

On the 9th of Muharram (Friday), another procession will begin at 9am from Martin Road Imambargah, Liaquatabad, and reach Nishtar Park at 12 pm, where a Majlis will be held.

After the Majlis, the procession will continue from Nishtar Park to Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, Kharadar, following the same delineated route.

The procession will follow the same route on the 10th of Muharram (Saturday) as well.

To ensure smooth traffic flow during the processions, the spokesperson stated that vehicular traffic from the city side will be diverted towards Soldier Bazaar Road (Bahadur Yar Jang Road), Coast Guard, Ankle Seria Chowk to Jubilee or Nishtar Road as soon as the procession starts from Nishtar Park.

Similarly, traffic from different sides of the city will be diverted as per the specific routes outlined in the plan to facilitate the processions’ movement and minimize disruptions for the public.

Additionally, he mentioned mentioned specific routes for participants in the processions from various sides of the city.

The comprehensive plan aims to provide security and ensure smooth traffic management during the important religious processions in Karachi.
