Karachi water supply normalized: KWSC

Karachi water supply restored

KARACHI: Water supply to the metropolitan city of Karachi has returned to normal after two days of disruptions due to the frequent power breakdowns at key pumping stations, according to the spokesperson of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).

The official said that repeated electricity failures due to K-Electric’s breakdowns have made water distribution difficult across the city. “The situation has directly affected the operation of our pumping systems,” the spokesperson added.

At Dhabeji Pumping Station, power outages were reported for two consecutive nights. On May 27, electricity was cut off at 1:50 AM and restored only by morning. On the same day, the power supply to K-III and K-IV phases was completely down, resulting in a shortfall of 45 million gallons of water to the city.

On May 28, another breakdown occurred at 2:45 AM, with power restored by 7:50 AM. Again, the K-III phase remained without electricity, and another 45 million gallons of water could not be supplied to Karachi, the spokesperson said.

In total, the city suffered a shortfall of 90 million gallons over two days.

Due to the shortage, the water level at the NEK Pumping Station dropped, and water supply to Sakhi Hassan Pumping Station and the hydrant was also suspended, the official added.

However, as of now, water supply in the city has returned to normal, the KWSC spokesperson confirmed.
