Karachi Weather Update: More showers expected

KARACHI: After overnight showers, the weather in Karachi turned pleasant on Friday, breaking the spell of intense heat while the met office has forecast more rains for the city and Hyderabad.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall was recorded in Gulshan-e-Hadeed with 17mm, followed by Shahrah-e-Faisal with 12mm, Old City Area 9mm, Defence Phase 2 with 7.8mm, Karachi Airport 5mm, and University Road with 2mm.

Cloudy skies currently cover most parts of the city, and the Met Office providing an updatde on Karachi weather has predicted more rain today, especially by evening. Intermittent showers are expected to continue on Saturday and Sunday in Karachi and Hyderabad.

Officials also warned of the risk of urban flooding over the weekend due to continuous showers.

The first spell of the monsoon will last till July 2, while the second spell is forecast to begin from July 5.

Today’s maximum temperature is likely to reach 32°C, while the current temperature is 30°C, with winds blowing from the northeast at 8 km/h, the Met Office added.

Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Rehabilitation and PDMA Chairman, Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman, has directed officials to keep a close watch on the rain situation across the province.

He instructed Rescue 1122 teams to ensure timely response in emergencies and avoid creating any hassle for the public.

The minister emphasised that maximum relief and facilities must be provided to citizens affected by the rain.
