LONDON: Pakistan’s delegation highlighted Kashmir, regional stability, and water security during over 50 diplomatic engagements held over a five-day visit to the United States (US), led by former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. This was shared by Senator Sherry Rehman, a senior member of Pakistan’s diplomatic delegation.
Rehman stated that the delegation held more than 50 meetings during the visit, including three days in Washington and two in New York. She described the overall reception as positive and said Pakistan’s position was effectively communicated.
She noted that discussions addressed regional issues, including the Kashmir dispute and the Indus Water Treaty. “The Kashmir issue remains the biggest dispute between Pakistan and India and must be resolved according to UN resolutions,” she said.
She added that the delegation was not focused on countering the Indian team but rather aimed to present Pakistan’s perspective. “Linking Pakistan to terrorism is Indian propaganda,” while Pakistan has evidence regarding India’s involvement in terrorism. “We also want to talk about terrorism, we have more evidence against India,” she added.
On water-related concerns, she said that all parties opposed the “weaponization of India’s water,” and called India’s policies a threat to regional peace. She added that India’s “militant mindset” was destabilizing the region.
She also thanked US President Donald Trump for his role in supporting a ceasefire in the region. “Our goal is to promote peace and dialogue, particularly on Kashmir and the Indus Water Treaty,” she said.
While Pakistan seeks dialogue, it would respond strongly if attacked, Sherry Rehman said.
Pakistan’s delegation has now reached the United Kingdom, after completing visit to the US.
