Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed an extension of the deadline for payment of electricity bills by 10 days with the aim of providing relief to the stressed public.

The PM directed the Ministry of Energy to issue an extension after which the Power Division ordered all power distribution companies, including K-Electric, to implement the extension for the July and August 2024 bills.

The facility will also be provided to those who pay their bills with a late payment surcharge.

Debt relief from China could help lower electricity costs: PM Shehbaz

Those consumers who had already paid their bills for month of July with late payment surcharge (LPS), their LPS would be adjusted in the coming bills for August.

In this regard, all necessary directives to all field formations, banks, and post offices have been issued.

Earlier the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) had also announced a 10 days extension in the last date for payment of electricity bills on directives of the Prime Minister.

The extension is effective for one month and will benefit power consumers for their July bills only. For instance, if the original due date for the July bill was August 7, it has now been extended to August 17. The extension will also apply to the August bills, which will now be due on September 17. This creates a consistent one-month interval between due dates.
