Khadijah Shah’s detention withdrawn, remand approved

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has witnessed important developments in the cases against Khadijah Shah. The Punjab government has officially withdrawn the detention order against her.

As the legal battle unfolds, sources report that the government’s written order pertaining to Khadijah Shah’s detention will be presented to the court in the coming days.

Her husband, Jahanzeb Amin, also approached the LHC to challenge the detention order. LHC also ordered to produce Khadijah Shah before the court at 2:30 p.m. If she is not produced, then IG Punjab Justice Ali Baqir Najafi should appear and explain, the LHC said.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) granted a two-day transit remand for Khadijah Shah. This decision allows for her temporary transfer from Lahore to Quetta. Subsequently, she was arrested by Quetta Police from Lahore Jail.

Earlier on November 17, the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore had issued orders to keep her detained for a period of thirty (30) days in Lahore despite bail orders. The authorities had expressed concern that her release might pose a threat to law and order, citing the potential for her to engage in activities that could disturb public peace.

In a video message, shared on X, formerly Twitter, Khadijah Shah’s mother Aneela Shah requested the authorities to take cognisance of the trampling of law, due process and fundamental rights of so many currently.

“The sanctity of the judiciary and our social contract is at stake,” she said in the video message shared by her son, Jarrar Shah.
