ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Saturday urged the Muslim world to unite against Israel’s recent attack on Iran, warning that if the Islamic countries fail to take a collective stand, they could face similar aggression in the future.
Speaking about the National Assembly’s budget session, Asif referenced the overnight Israeli strike on Iran and emphasised the long-standing historical ties between Pakistan and Iran. “At a time when war is raging in the region, it is imperative for Muslim nations to take the lead,” he said.
Damage to Iranian nuclear sites so far appears limited
The minister expressed concern over Israel’s continued targeting of Iran, Yemen, Syria and Palestine, stating that the Muslim world’s lack of unity would only embolden further attacks. “If the Muslim world does not come together today, everyone will face the consequences one by one,” he cautioned.
Asif proposed that the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convene an emergency meeting to discuss a unified response. “It is essential that decisive action is taken against Israel in the OIC meeting,” he asserted.
His remarks come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following Israel’s latest military actions against Iran targetting their top army generals and nuclear scientists leading to a widespread condemnation from Muslim-majority nations. Pakistan has historically maintained close ties with Iran and has consistently advocated for Palestinian rights at international forums.
The Defence Minister’s call for an OIC session reflects growing concerns over regional instability and the need for a coordinated Islamic stance on the issue.
