LAHORE: Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has taken a strong stance against the persistent issue of kite flying in the province, despite the imposition of a ban.

Expressing her profound dismay over the frequent occurrences of kite flying incidents, the CM has issued directives for the initiation of a comprehensive campaign aimed at eradicating this practice across Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz has stressed the need for stringent actions against individuals found violating the ban on kite flying.

In light of this, she has instructed the Chief Secretary, district administration, and police authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the ban. To formalise her instructions, a notification has been issued by the CM’s office.

Furthermore, in response to a recent tragedy involving the death of a youth due to kite flying in Faisalabad, Maryam Nawaz has called for swift action.

She has requested a detailed report from the Inspector General of Police (IG) within 48 hours, seeking clarification on the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident. The CM has urged the IG Police to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the tragic loss of life.

Expressing her concern, CM Maryam stated, “Despite imposition of a ban on kite flying under the Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying Ordinance 2001, occurrence of such incidents across Punjab is highly deplorable. A crackdown must be launched against those found involved in committing violation of kite flying ban.”

The directives issued by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety and upholding the rule of law in Punjab.

As the campaign for the eradication of kite flying gains momentum, authorities are expected to take robust measures to curb this hazardous activity and prevent future tragedies.
