PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anti-Corruption Establishment on Wednesday arrested Deputy Director Internal Audit of the Health Department, Zahir Shah, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs1 million.

According to a statement issued by the ACE KP spokesperson, provincial anti-corruption adviser Brigadier (retd) Musaddiq Abbasi had received a complaint a day earlier against the deputy director. The complainant alleged that Shah had demanded a Rs2 million bribe in exchange for clearing audit objections.

Taking immediate notice of the complaint, the anti-corruption adviser ordered a swift operation.

Acting on these instructions, a team led by ACE KP Director Sadiq Anjum carried out a raid at the Health Secretariat in the presence of a magistrate. During the operation, Zahir Shah was caught red-handed while receiving Rs1 million in bribe.

The amount was recovered from his possession and he was handed over to the Special Investigation Wing for further legal action.
