PESHAWAR: To boost the polio vaccination campaign’s effectiveness, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to revoke national identity cards of parents who refuse polio drops for their children.

Health Minister Qasim Ali Shah announced this measure upon assuming office.

Secretary Health Mahmood Ahmad Wazir briefed Shah on ongoing health projects, with the minister requesting information on Sehat Card plus by Tuesday.

Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the only countries with active polio transmission, posing a global resurgence risk, warns the World Health Organization.

Since there’s no cure for polio, vaccination remains the sole prevention method.
