KP governor lashes out at provincial govt’s financial management

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has voiced his concerns about the provincial government’s misinterpretation of positive messages following their oath-taking.

Highlighting the unrest in Parachinar, Kundi urged both the federal and provincial governments to take note of the rockets being fired in the region.

Kundi criticised the provincial administration, stating that in the past decade, the province’s financial situation has deteriorated to the point where land belonging to universities is being sold. “Defamation is claimed by those who have respect,” he remarked, implying that not everyone nominated by PTI holds that respect.

The governor addressed Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s Rs 500 million defamation claim, which mentioned mental torture. Kundi responded by pointing out that all diseases, including mental illness, are treated for free in Sindh hospitals, and he would extend the same courtesy.

The governor refuted the chief minister’s denial of extortion claims and the notice of mental torture. He questioned whether Barrister Saif genuinely represents the provincial government, despite considering him a good friend. Kundi suggested that ministers and advisers should focus on their responsibilities and that he would only respond to statements made directly by the chief minister.

Expressing his commitment to peace, development, and prosperity in the province, Kundi emphasised the need for arguments over coercion. He criticised those who object to Sindh’s situation, pointing out that Sindh has never complained about a lack of funds for salaries.

Accusing the provincial government of ruining the treasury over the past ten years, Kundi demanded accountability for the missing funds. He reminded them that in 2013, the province was handed over in a peaceful state, but now faces deteriorating conditions and an empty treasury. Kundi held the current administration responsible, noting that the problems persisted even when PTI controlled the federal government.

Kundi alleged that the provincial government refrained from raising issues due to fear of angering their chairman and losing their ministries. He called for a united front among all political parties to protect the province’s rights and suggested holding a Jirga to align their efforts.

Offering to mediate discussions with the federal government, Kundi expressed doubt about the provincial government’s capability to engage effectively. He reaffirmed Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) support for the federal government and clarified that there is no confusion in their policy.
