BUNER: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government dispatched a helicopter to assist with relief operations in Buner district, where heavy monsoon rains caused severe flooding and trapped residents on rooftops.

The helicopter’s mission is to evacuate those stranded and deliver essential aid to the flood-affected population.

Authorities confirmed that the death toll in Buner rose to 5 as floodwaters continue to threaten lives and property. The district administration mobilised rescue teams and set up control rooms to coordinate relief activities and monitor the evolving closely.

The KP government dedicated two additional helicopters to support flood relief efforts across the province.

The flooding in Buner is part of a broader pattern of severe weather affecting Pakistan’s northern region this monsoon season.

In adjacent areas such as Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan, heavy rains triggered landslides and flash floods that led to widespread damage.

As a precaution, AJK ordered a two-day closure of all educational intuitions to ensure safety of students and staff.

In Muzaffarabad, a sudden cloudburst caused flash floods that killed six members of a single family. Overflowing rivers and streams also floods parts of Bagh and Bhimber.

Meanwhile, in G-B, landslides and flash floods claimed at least ten lives.

Meteorological authorities warned of continued heavy rainfall in coming days.

Across the Line of Control (LOC) in Indian-occupied Kashmir, a cloudburst-triggered flood in Kishtwar district killed at least 60, with dozens missing.

Rescue operations involving the Indian military’s White Knight Corps are currently ongoing.
