KP minister Shakeel Ahmed resigns over dispute with Gandapur

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minster for Communication and Works (C&W) Shakeel Ahmed resigned from his Cabinet position following disagreements with the KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Thursday.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minster for Communication and Works (C&W) Shakeel Ahmed resigned from his Cabinet position following disagreements with the KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Thursday.

In his resignation letter submitted Thursday night, the KP minister criticised Gandapur’s government for compromising on “anti-corruption” and “anti-establishment” principles that were central to their campaign.

Ahmed, who belongs to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), argued that the government’s actions have damaged the party’s image among the voter base. He said that the public voted them into office based on promises of transparency and reform.

The PTI member tendered his resignation after meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail two weeks ago. After meeting with the PTI’s founder, Ahmed held a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, where he subtly critcised Gandapur acting on Khan’s instructions.

Shakeel Ahmed’s resignation sheds light on internal conflicts plaguing the KP government and even within the PTI. It also highlights the challenges and issues the administration is facing while trying to uphold its foundational promises.
