KP set to administer polio vaccine to 2.72m children

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is set to commence administration of the polio vaccine through its Sub-National Immunization Drive (SNID) campaign, from August 7.

The SNID campaign aims to vaccinate over 2.72 million eligible children against the crippling poliovirus and eradicate lifelong paralysis in selected districts of the province.

During the initiative titled ‘Sub-National Immunization Days, Outbreak Response’ (SNID/OBR), teams will administer the oral polio vaccine to all eligible children under the age of five in eight complete and nine partial districts of the province.

In districts Peshawar and Khyber, a fractional dose of the inactivated form of the vaccination will be given to children aged 4 to 59 months to bolster their immunity.

The decision to conduct this campaign was made in a high-level meeting chaired by Additional Secretary for Polio Eradication and EOC Coordinator Muhammad Asif Rahim, at the Provincial Emergency Operations Center on Friday.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Coordinator EOC Muhammad Zeeshan Khan. Representatives from UNICEF, WHO, NSTOP, health department officials, and other stakeholders were also present.
