PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Department lost millions of rupees due to non-outsourcing of government rest houses in the province.
As per latest data received from the tourism department, the department has incurred Rs 99.8 million in losses, primarily because the provincial government did not outsource the rest houses.
Details show that, despite plans during the last three years, 33 government rest houses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were not outsourced. During this time, Rs 66.8 million were spent on the maintenance of government rest houses, while Rs 31.5 million was spent on repairing costs.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had decided to outsource government rest houses in 2022. However, now the rest houses have been returned to the relevant institutions, as per Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Advisor Chan Zeb. The decision to return the rest houses was taken by the provincial cabinet.
