PESHAWAR: The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) air quality monitoring system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)has been non-functional for over a decade, raising serious questions about the efficiency of this vital government entity.
EPA has sought the help of the federal government to repair the system, as they lack the technical expertise.
The system, initially gifted to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by Japan in 2007, is critical for monitoring pollutants like carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and particulate matter in the air.

Sources indicate that essential equipment, including computers, laptops, and screens connected to the system, is also unusable.
According to sources, an estimated cost of Rs 10 million is required to repair the system, but efforts to secure the amount from the provincial government have remained futile.
The EPA has also reached out to the Director General of EPA Punjab for support, but the issue remains unresolved.
Ham News is trying to get an official response from relevant authorities on this matter.
