KP’s anti-terror war fund expenditure details made public

PESHAWAR: Details about the funds allocated and expenditures incurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) under the head of the war on terror have been made public.

According to the disclosed records, KP received a substantial sum of Rs415 billion in funds from the federal government from 2010 till 2023.

According to the documents, a majority of these funds were channeled towards the reconstruction of roads, bridges, schools, and police stations in areas severely affected by terrorism.

Additionally, according to the documents, Rs90.80 billion were allocated for non-salary budget, and Rs15.92 billion were earmarked for addressing identified deficiencies.

The documents also reveal the distribution of development funds under the KP government’s jurisdiction. Notably, Rs1.70 billion were allocated for counterterrorism courts, Rs17.20 billion for security allowances, and a significant Rs33. 88 billion were spent on various security-related projects.

KP requests audit of funds for war on terror

Furthermore, it has been outlined in the documents that KP receives a one per cent share of divisible resources annually to support its ongoing fight against terrorism.

It is worth noting that the special audit of these funds was ordered by former prime minister Shahbaz Sharif, prompting the KP finance department to request the federal government’s involvement in conducting the audit.

Sharif had pledged a thorough examination of the Rs415 billion in funds allocated by the federal government under the counter-terrorism allocation to ensure their proper and lawful utilisation.

Later, the KP caretaker government advocated for the involvement of the Auditor General of Pakistan, ensuring both impartiality and credibility in the process.

Additionally, the caretaker government had called for a comprehensive investigation into the allocation of these anti-terrorism funds for various projects and initiatives.

Considering that K-P’s share in the NFC Award is one per cent, the province has received a total of Rs415 billion during the nine-year tenure of the PTI.
