ISLAMABAD: US Mission Spokesperson Jonathan Lalley issued a statement in the attack in Kurram, saying, “The United States joins the Government of Pakistan in condemning the horrific attack in Kurram that killed dozens of innocent Pakistanis and critically injured many more.”
Lalley conveyed US’ sympathies and condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, and wished the injured a full and speedy recovery.
“The Pakistani people deserve to live free from harm, danger, and threat, and to feel protected and secure in their daily lives,” the statement read, adding that “The United States will remain a steadfast partner as Pakistan works to ensure the safety and security of all its citizens. We stand in solidarity with Pakistan and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in this difficult time.”
Kurram firing incident death toll rises to 39
Yesterday, 39 people were massacred while 28 more were injured when assailants opened fire on a convoy going to Peshawar from Parachinar. Initial reports are conflicting on the motive for the ambush, with the local officials calling it a ‘land dispute’ motivated attack.
The attack occurred in the Mandori Charkhel area, and witness reports say that the firing continued for about five minutes. The tensions are running high in the district with the locals blaming the provincial government for failure to control terrorism.
