KU’s Professor Zakaria Sajid passes away

KARACHI: The founder and former chairman of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Karachi (KU) and director of the Press Institute of Pakistan (PIP) Professor (retired) Zakaria Sajid passed away on Thursday morning.

Professor Zakaria Sajid was 96 years old. He was the teacher of thousands of journalists.

The Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi expressed his condolences on the passing of Professor (retired) Zakaria Sajid.

His funeral prayer will be offered today after the Zuhr prayer at Masjid Ibrahim, Jamia Karachi, and his burial will take place at the Jamia Karachi cemetery.

Zakaria Sajid was regarded as a prominent journalist and teacher of his time. He retired from the university on June 30, 1988, and continued teaching as an adjunct professor for a long period of time.

In 2009, the University of Sindh in recognition of the invaluable services of a venerated teacher of Mass Communication honoured with a memento shield and named Conference Hall of CRDC as Professor Zakria Sajid Conference hall.
