Lahore police arrest 10,000 for illegal possession of arms; Karachi police bust carjackers’ gang

LAHORE/KARACHI: Lahore police have arrested 10,723 people for possessing illegal arms in last year.
According to a data shared by the police, 10,723 cases were registered against those possessiong illegal arms in 2024.
A Lahore police spokesperson said on Monday that 148 Kalashnikovs and 620 rifles were recovered from the arrested accused.
He said that 376 guns and 9,487 pistols were also recovered from the accused. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana said that the police are determined to rid Lahore of illegal arms.
LAHORE POLICE STRENGTHENS FORCE
More than 4,500 police officers and personnel were promoted in 2024, Punjab Police spokesperson said.
In total, 12 deputy superintendents of police (DSP) were promoted to the post of superintendents (SP), and 92 Inspectors were promoted to the post of DSPs, Punjab Police spokesperson said.
Moreover, 394 sub-inspectors were promoted to the post of Inspectors, 131 traffic wardens were promoted to the post of Senior Traffic Wardens, 887 assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) were promoted to the post of sub-inspectors, and 857 head constables were promoted to the post of ASIs, Punjab Police spokesperson.
Among constables, 1,730 were promoted to the post of Head Constables, along with 19 Grade IV Staff, 27 Junior Clerks, and 19 Stenographers, the spokesperson said.
STEALING CARS UNDER GUISE OF DISABILITY
In Karachi, the police bust a gang of car thieves who were committing the crime under the guise of disability. The Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell in Karachi arrested the gang members and recovered a stolen vehicle.
The accused had put fake number plate on stolen vehicle, the police said, adding that they were moving the stolen vehicle to Shikarpur.
Karachi Police SSP Abdul Rahim told media that an investigation has started into the gang’s activities and to recover previously stolen vehicles.
