Lahore authorities carry out late-night smog lockdown checks as AQI improves

LAHORE: Authorities in the provincial capital Lahore carried out late-night smog lockdown checking operation.

Lahore DIG Operations Faisal Kamran conducted late night citywide tours, including special checking of remote areas. He visited Mughalpura, Batapur, and GT Road areas and also reviewed the implementation of SOPs at Mall Road, Liberty market, and Barkat Market.

Along with implementation of smog lockdown, security duties were also checked during the operation.

DIG Operations Kamran instructed the police mobile squad to ensure lockdown implementation in all areas of the city. He said that the city is in a state of emergency against smog, and no leniency will be shown to those who violate the lockdown SOPs.

In a related development, as a result of the government’s efforts, Lahore’s air quality index (AQI) has improved to 402. However, despite this improvement, Lahore continues to rank as the second most polluted city in the world.

Highest air pollution in the city was recorded on Canal Road at AQI of 477, followed by 465 in DHA Phase III, and 449 at Shimla Pahari Chowk.
