LAHORE: Lahore, a city known for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant atmosphere, has found itself in an unwelcome spotlight as it grapples with soaring levels of air pollution. Recent data reveals that Lahore ranks among the world’s most polluted cities, with air quality indices (AQI) reaching alarming heights.
Lahore’s Cantonment (Cantt) area recorded the highest AQI, reaching a staggering 389. This record-breaking level of air pollution is a clear indicator of the severe challenges the city faces in tackling this growing crisis.
DHA Phase Eight was not far behind, with an AQI of 386. The substantial pollution levels in this upscale area underscore the citywide nature of the problem.

Gulberg, another prominent district in Lahore, recorded an AQI of 353. This figure, while slightly lower than the aforementioned areas, is still a cause for concern, as it significantly exceeds the acceptable air quality standards.
The rising AQI in Lahore is a matter of grave concern for residents and authorities alike. It points to the urgent need for comprehensive measures to combat air pollution and protect the health and well-being of Lahore’s inhabitants.
As the city grapples with this issue, concerted efforts are required to address the root causes and mitigate the harmful effects of pollution on the environment and public health.
