Lahore retains title of world’s most polluted city

LAHORE: Lahore, the provincial capital, continues to top the list of the world’s most polluted city due to lack of rain and increasing pollution.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Lahore reached alarming levels on Friday, with the city recording an overall AQI of 732.
In some areas, the pollution levels were even higher; on Murtaza Ali Road, the AQI hit a staggering 1404, while DHA recorded an AQI of 916.

The increasing smog is also making the public suffer from severe respiratory diseases which include cough, flu-like symptoms, and fever.
The worsening air quality and persistent smog has become a serious issue not only for the people and the environment but also for the economy, as restaurants and shops are being shut down early as part of smog combating measures.
