Lahore sizzles at 40 degrees with no chance of rain

LAHORE: The scorching sun has given rise to temperatures in the provincial capital, Lahore, along with other cities with no chances of rain in the near future.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that Lahore recorded a minimum temperature of 23°C on Friday, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 40°C.

Weather experts have ruled out any chance of rain over the next two to three days, predicting continued dry and hot conditions across Punjab, including Lahore.

The heat has forced residents indoors, leading to a surge in the use of air coolers and air conditioners in homes and offices.

In response to the worsening heatwave conditions, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an advisory to the Local Government and Community Development Department, directing immediate preparations to protect citizens from extreme heat.

According to the PDMA directives, hydration points and water supply facilities must be arranged at markets, bus stops, and places of worship. Public toilets and hand pumps should be kept functional.

All metropolitan corporations, municipal committees, and municipal corporations are to remain fully operational for heatwave-related measures. Coordination with WASA and Rescue 1122 must be ensured.

Public awareness campaigns should be launched using loudspeakers, banners, and mosque announcements, said the advisory.

According to the advisory, local personalities, teachers, and religious leaders should assist in raising awareness, and each union council and municipal corporation should appoint a representative for heatwave management.

Director General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, emphasized the need for proactive efforts, urging local bodies to step up and help safeguard citizens from the impact of the looming heatwave.
