Lahore temperature reaches 33°C, Peshawar expected to top 41°C

WEB DESK: Heat and humidity reign in the provincial capital of Lahore on Sunday, with temperature reaching 33°C. The maximum temperature in the city is likely to be 36°C today, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.

However, later in the day, rain with thunder and strong winds is likely at some places in the city.

Meanwhile, Peshawar and surrounding areas are in the grip of a severe heat wave, with maximum temperature likely to reach 41°C on Sunday, PMD said. The weather may get even hotter in the city during the coming week.

Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun to avoid heatstroke during this period.

Overall, PMD said that the weather is expected to remain hot and humid in most parts of the country on Sunday. A few places in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as Islamabad, Pothohar region, southeast Sindh may get some rain with thundershowers later in the day.

Going region by region, Islamabad and its surrounding areas will remain hot and humid on Sunday with a possibility of strong winds and thundershowers in the evening and night hours.

Punjab too will remain hot and humid, but there is prediction of rain with strong winds and thundershowers at a few places in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Taunsa and its surroundings, in the evening and night hours.

Likewise, the weather will remain hot and humid in most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, rain with strong winds and thundershowers is likely at a few places in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Shangla, Swat, Kurram, Khyber, Kazai and Waziristan, Karak.

Most of the districts of Sindh are likely to remain hot and humid as well. However, in the southeastern districts, it will be partly cloudy, and rain may occur in Umerkot, Tharparkar, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Khairpur, Sanghar, Mithi and Padidan.

Most of the districts of Balochistan are likely to remain hot and humid. However, in the evening and night hours, rain with strong winds and thundershowers is likely at a few places in Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Barkhan, Musakhel, Khuzdar and surrounding areas.

Kashmir, however, will get partly cloudy weather, along with some rain and thundershowers. Cloudy weather is also predicted for Gilgit-Baltistan, and there is also a possibility of rain at a few places with strong winds and thunderstorms, PMD said.
