LAHORE: In a strategic move to enhance crime control, Lahore authorities have decided to establish 10 new police stations across the city. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Operations has submitted a summary of these proposed stations to the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab.

As part of the plan, the Nishtar Colony and Factory Area police stations will merge to form the Punjab Society police station. Additionally, the Baghbanpura area will be divided, giving rise to the creation of the Shaheed police station from Thana Shahid.

Further recommendations include elevating the Chowki Shershah of Chohang police station, converting the Raiwind police station outpost Jaya Baga into a full-fledged police station, and establishing police stations in Kahna, Begum Kot, Rakh Chandra Roy, and Chowki Sabzi Mandi.

Authorities argue that dividing large police stations according to population density is crucial for crime prevention. Currently, Lahore operates with 84 police stations across six divisions, and the proposed construction of these new stations would increase the total to ninety-four, according to police officials.
