LESCO team attacked by electricity thieves in Lahore

The federal government recently announced a reduction in electricity prices across Pakistan, with Rs7.41 per unit for domestic user and Rs7.59 per unit for industrial consumers. But how much will this reduction impact an average Pakistani battling economic inflation and skyrocketing prices of basic commodities?

LAHORE: A team from the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) was attacked while attempting to conduct an operation against electricity thieves in Lahore.

The attack involved the use of sticks and iron bars. Several members of the LESCO team were injured, however, no fatalities were reported.

According to a spokesperson for LESCO, the meter reader was the first to be targeted by the assailants. The armed attackers were led by a man accompanied by his sons and other cronies.

The attack was described as a ‘brutal’ act of retaliation against the company’s efforts to combat illegal electricity connections.

The following day, LESCO’s sub-divisional officer (SDO) returned to the same area to continue the operation against electricity theft. However, he and his team were also met with violent attacks by the same assailants.
