Light drizzle in Lahore makes weather pleasant

LAHORE: A light drizzle in Lahore on Tuesday made the weather pleasant, while the rest of the country continued to experience cold and dry conditions.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a new weather system entered Punjab, bringing cloud cover and the possibility of light rain or drizzle in various districts, including Gujranwala, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and the Pothohar region. However, the chances of significant rainfall remain low.

In Lahore, the minimum temperature was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius, with a maximum expected to reach 26 degrees. The city has been going through a dry and cold spell due to a lack of rainfall, and experts predict that this winter season will be shorter than usual.

Meanwhile, intermittent snowfall and rain continued for the second consecutive day in Neelum Valley, where tourist spots such as Jagran Valley, Lovat Bala, Arang Kel, Grace, Shounter, and Sargan Valleys received three to five inches of snow. Slippery conditions on the main Neelum Highway, particularly from Kail to Taobat, affected traffic flow, while snowfall also disrupted power and communication systems in upper areas.

World may have entered era of 1.5C warming, scientists say

The weather department has forecasted continued snowfall and rain in Neelum Valley and surrounding areas for the next 24 hours. The district administration has urged residents and tourists to take precautionary measures while travelling.

In other parts of the country, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to receive rain and snowfall, while some areas in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan may also experience similar conditions. Islamabad is likely to witness rain with strong winds, whereas most districts of Balochistan will remain cold and dry. Rain is expected in Lahore, Sialkot, Attock, Rawalpindi, and Jhelum, while Murree, Galiyat, and nearby areas could receive both rain and snowfall.

Most districts of Sindh will continue to experience dry and cold weather. In northern regions, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Shangla are likely to receive rain, while parts of Battagram and Mansehra may see light snowfall. Scattered rain and snowfall are also expected in Gilgit-Baltistan in the coming days.
