ISLAMABAD: The much-anticipated National Folk Festival Lok Mela Islamabad kicks off at the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) today (Nov 3).
This vibrant event promises to be a celebration of Pakistan’s rich cultural tapestry, offering a plethora of provincial pavilions, shopping stalls, food vendors, and musical performances.
The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Peace and Harmony through Cultural Diversity,’ highlighting the significance of unity and diversity.
Minister for National Heritage & Culture, Jamal Shah, expressed his enthusiasm for the Lok Mela, emphasizing its role in fostering national cohesion and promoting cultural diversity. He also noted that the event would provide high-quality entertainment to the public.
One of the festival’s central features is the presentation of the diverse cultures and traditions of all four provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

This diverse array of cultural expressions will be showcased in a fitting and captivating manner.
In a touching display of solidarity, Jamal Shah expressed his condolences for the innocent Palestinians affected by recent events in Israel.
He announced that all festival activities would be conducted in support of the Palestinian people.
Additionally, a special stall will be dedicated to collecting funds for Palestine, and the Ministry is coordinating with the Embassy of Palestine in this regard.
Visitors to the festival can look forward to a wide range of cultural activities, including traditional dances, folk music performances, arts and crafts demonstrations, and a delectable selection of dishes from all corners of Pakistan. Furthermore, an open mic program will provide a platform for talented singers to showcase their voices.
The Lok Mela will run until November 12, from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. With an affordable entry ticket priced at just Rs 150, the festival ensures accessibility for everyone to partake in this delightful celebration of Pakistan’s cultural diversity and aspirations for peace and harmony.
