Love marriage: Pregnant woman, husband killed in Balochistan

couple killed over love marriage

QUETTA: Brothers killed their pregnant sister and her husband for contracting a love marriage without the consent of their families in the Balochistan area of Nushki.

According to Levies officials, Shoaib Khan, a resident of Panjgur, was travelling to Quetta with his pregnant wife and brother. The couple had stopped at a private hotel near Lakpass, on the Nushki cross route in Mastung, when unidentified gunmen opened fire, killing both husband and wife on the spot.

Law enforcement reached the scene and shifted the bodies to a nearby hospital. Officials said Shoaib, a native of Chatkan, Panjgur, had married Benazir from Hazarganji, Quetta, around seven years ago through a court marriage.

Recently, Shoaib had reportedly reconciled with his in-laws. Benazir’s brothers allegedly invited the couple to Quetta under the pretext of a family gathering.

The couple left for Quetta but decided to spend the night at a hotel near Lakpass. The next morning, the woman’s brothers traced their location through a phone call and fatally shot them.

The suspects fled the scene after the attack. Levies officials have registered a case and launched a search operation to arrest the accused.
