Eid day 3: LWMC’s grand cleaning operation continues in full swing

LAHORE: The grand cleaning operation, which began on the night before Eid (Friday) continues on the third day of Eidul Azha (today). The cleaning teams of Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) have been operational, once again, since early morning.

LWMC CEO Babar Sahib Din said that on the first day of Eid (Saturday), 35,000 tons of waste were disposed of in Lahore Division, out of which 18,700 tons was collected only from Lahore city.

Prior to this, 12,000 tons of waste were disposed of on Friday, out of which 7,800 tons was only from Lahore, CEO Babar said.

On second day of Eid (Sunday), over 23,000 tons of waste has been disposed of from Lahore Division, with at least 16,300 tons collected on time (yesterday), he added.

The LWMC chief shared that citizens are happy with LWMC helpline. The 30-minute response time has won the hearts of citizens, he said.

Sharing details, he said that 6,800 people had contacted the LWMC helpline on Eid day one, while more than 6,000 people reached out to the helpline on the second day of Eidul Azha.

Lahore’s denizens have also shared their sentiments, saying that Lahore has witnessed such a clean and pollution-free Eid after many years. Under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, excellent cleaning arrangements have been made on Eidul Adha.

LWMC chief said that after disposing of garbage, the streets and neighborhoods are also being washed with rose water. Moreover, drone cameras are also being used to monitor anyone throwing garbage into the canal.

In the first two days of Eid, cases were registered against 20 people who threw garbage into the canal. Fines of more than Rs55,000 were also imposed.

Over 24,000 sanitation workers, operating three continuous shifts, are ensuring cleanliness in Lahore during Eidul Azha.
